Understanding HIFU: focused ultrasound for the skin

How High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound works, who it may suit, and why patience is part of the process.

HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. In aesthetics, it is used to address the look of skin laxity on areas such as the face, under the chin and the neck — without incisions.

How it works

Ultrasound energy is focused at set depths beneath the skin, creating small zones of controlled heat while the surface stays intact. The body responds by remodeling collagen over time.

Why changes are gradual

Because collagen renewal takes weeks to months, any firming tends to appear gradually rather than immediately. Results vary, and some people benefit from more than one session.

Is it right for me?

HIFU is generally considered for mild to moderate laxity. It is not a substitute for surgery, and it isn’t suitable for everyone. A consultation is the best way to find out.
